Get Reading Right - the tools to read and spell

How to Use the Decodable Practice Books

Whether at home or in the classroom, the Practice Books are your tools to ensure children are using only their synthetic phonics skills and are truly ready for the year one phonics screening check.

"The children loved the books, so colourful and  targeted. The children really liked the fact they could read a book by themselves"

Carol Johnston, Woodlands Primary, UK

In the Classroom

Create a guided reading carousel and have groups of children practice and apply their synthetic phonics skills, in real books.

As a Home Reader

Ensure parents give them same consistent message at home, that you are giving at school; “decode to read and segment to spell”. Parents love to be able to hear their child experience such success and they soon grasp the intuitive techniques that are explained on the inside cover of every book.

Parents will be able to use the books on a one to one basis to:

  1. Provide a solid foundation for a child’s reading and spelling
  2. Help a child ‘catch-up’ and stay there!
  3. Share in the reading process with their child and to encourage their child to read every day

You might also want to send home the free parents guide to explain the process.

For use with the Individual Needs Coordinator in one to one tuition:

Alongside using the Get Reading Right Power Pack ensure children understand that they are learning to read for a reason: to read real books! Go back to basics to ensure they have the solid foundations; reinforce the part of the code which was missed out and provide lots of practice to ensure the skills are ‘locked in’.

You will need a Singles Pack for one-to-one use.
